I'm No Seamstress: Finishing the Nursery Curtains

February 14, 2014

Believe it. The nursery curtains are done and you’ll never believe what they cost me. They’ve been on my to-do list for a while and I’m happy to cross ‘em off! If you’re new, read this post to catch up on how I started the curtains. If you’ve read it already or just want a refresher, here are the highlights: The initial post included the verb “attempt” so I made no promises that these would turn out well!

Shopping for a Nursery Rug

February 13, 2014

I mentioned a while back that I had picked up a rug for the nursery. Well, technically… Matt picked it up. It was big and heavy and this pregnant chick wasn’t about to break her back. It was a Costco bargain (be still my heart!) and it wasn’t exactly what I had in mind for the room when I started the rug search. You see, I had some other rugs in mind that were major contenders.

More Snow? That's Okay...

February 11, 2014

Matt asked me on Sunday if we were supposed to get more snow this week. (We were expecting a couple of inches on the ground Monday morning.) I told him that I didn’t think we were due for anything else. Well, the boy needs a better weather woman because clearly…I’m not cutting it. We sit somewhere on the edge of the 8-12” mark, which will give us well over two feet in a span of two weeks.

Holiday Gift Guide 2014

February 8, 2014

As promised, I’m back with my holiday gift guide for men, women and babes. These are a few of my favorite gifts this year - things I’ve seen in magazines, online, and in stores. Happy shopping and Happy December! For Women This “secret pocket infinity scarf.” Genius. Doesn’t the girl in the picture below look so happy to have her “secret pocket?” (givesimple.com, $29.50) Sarcasm aside, my mother warns against it so I’m getting away from it but if you’re the type of girl (or know someone that is) that tucks her phone in her sports bra strap while on a walk, this may be the gift for you (or her).

Time to Rock! (Phase 2)

February 6, 2014

I’m checking in on this beautiful Thursday with a rocking chair update! I’m so happy to see some blue skies today after all the snow yesterday. We ended up with right around a foot of the white stuff! I stayed inside all day organizing, relaxing, and drinking gallons of tea. It was pretty nice. If you recall, Matt and I decided to forego our original decision to buy an upholstered nursery glider in favor of a family heirloom that his Great Aunt passed onto us before she passed away.

My Kind of Pillow Talk

February 4, 2014

If you came for that kind of pillow talk, sorry ‘bout it. I want to talk about actual pillows - of the decorative sort. Specifically, I want to talk about one that I fell in love with at Target last month. Feast your eyes on this gorgeous, red herringbone floor pillow. It was basically free. You’ll see. (Source) Isn’t it dreamy? The back is dark gray and I think that it’s pretty masculine, for a pillow.

Christmas Road Trip

February 2, 2014

Back in December, I decided to roadtrip nearly 2,000 miles from my sister Melissa’s home in San Antonio to our parents’ home in Connecticut. I never blogged about it, but I did post some pictures to Instagram while we were on the road. (You can follow me @ schoolhouserehab.) I want to document the trip here now so I can look back at the pictures and remember the adventure. (Source)

I'm No Seamstress: Attempting Nursery Curtains

January 16, 2014

As a general rule, when I need curtains, I ask my Nana. Last year, she made the beautiful valance for the quaint window in the bathroom. She also made the three valances for the three kitchen windows. Over the sink: Above the back window: On the back door: I know, she rocks. Please ignore that back door. It needs paint so desperately. If there was a word in my vocabulary that meant “even more desperately than desperately,” I’d use it for that back door.

Time to Rock!

January 12, 2014

Every nursery needs a rocker. That’s for sure. I had the upholstered, glider version in my head. Forever. You know, something like this: (Image Source) Then, I realized how much space they take. We don’t have that kind of space in this house. I also realized I had a beautiful antique rocker sitting in the guest room that was begging to be refinished. Matt’s Great Aunt passed it down to us, and we both love the idea of bringing some glory to the vintage piece.

5-Minute Fixes for a Fresh Start

January 6, 2014

With nearly a week of the new year under our belts, it’s easy to get caught up in online posts featuring lists that showcase how to change your life for the better. Resolutions! Diets! Commitments! (Image Source) Has anyone ever kept one? I’d love to hear how you made it stick. I’ve never been a resolution kind of girl myself, but my word, the internet is predictably ablaze with ideas this time of year.
