A Letter To My (Second) Baby (7-12 Months)

July 13, 2017

To my sweet baby Theo, Your first birthday is officially here and I can’t believe it. In fact, to make sure I wasn’t imagining, I wandered up to your room at midnight last night to watch you sleep for a bit before snapping your picture at 12:11, when you came barreling into my life exactly a year ago. I’ve never experienced a year fly by so fast, but I’ve been doing my best to savor every second while trying to document the best parts.

A Letter To My (Second) Baby: 10 Weeks

September 23, 2016

Theodore Dean, my love, Welcome to the world, big guy. I’m so happy you’re here! It’s been ten weeks since you came into my life and man, I thought the day would never come. The doctors and I anticipated you coming a little bit earlier than you did but you surprised everyone and hung on (in) until the very end. Even when induction day came, it seemed to pass sooo slowly until Daddy and I finally got the call at lunchtime to head to the hospital to meet you.

A Letter To My (Second) Baby: 3 Months

October 13, 2016

Theo, my sweet, Three months. Oy. Is it even possible? How can the newborn days have come and gone in just the blink of an eye? You continue to be my amiable, happy, relaxed baby and your personality is starting to show in leaps and bounds. You’re such a treasure and it is SO easy to love you. Your smiles are just as contagious as they were in August and now, you’ve added a mischievous grin to your repertoire that makes me crazy.

A Letter To My (Second) Baby: 4 Months

December 13, 2016

Theo my love, I apologize for publishing your 4-month letter on your 5-month birthday, but you (and your brother) keep me insanely busy. At the end of the day, once you’re both asleep and the house is de-tornadoed, I’m ready to turn my brain off and completely zone out. But hey, you’re hopefully getting your 4-month and your 5-month on the same day, so that’s special, right?! All through October and early November, you maintained your status quo and I want to sincerely thank you for that.

A Letter To My (Second) Baby: 5 Months

December 13, 2016

To my sweet Theodorable, If it seems like I was just yammering on about how you had turned 4-months old, you’re right. I published your 4-month letter earlier today and now I’m back with a timely 5-month letter. You win some, you lose some. It’s hard for me to come to terms with the fact that you’re actually a month away from being six months old. Last Spring, when talking to Harrison about your arrival and discussing when you’d be able to play with him, I casually mentioned December or January, thinking that it’d be forever before we were actually there.

A Letter To My (Second) Baby: 6 Months

July 13, 2017

Theo Beo Pumpkin Pie*, Happy half birthday to you, my sweet boy! In July, when I was waiting to meet you, I constantly looked ahead (in my head) to January. I’d imagine you sitting up, interacting with Harrison and having a personality all your own. Somehow, here we are and let me tell you - you aren’t disappointing. You’re curious, blissfully happy, bubbly and harboring just a smidgen of Mommy-itis and Daddy-itis.

A Letter To My Baby (10 Months)

January 21, 2015

Harr Bear! Hi, crazy boy! It was January 17th when I started this letter and now it’s January 21st which means we are LESS THAN two months away from your first birthday. I know - that has to be a joke, right?! You’ve officially lived out in the world longer than you lived in me. The last month raced by mostly because you were racing by. This time last month, you were crawling a step here and a step there but now you’re crawling with fervor and you’re all over the place.

A Letter To My Baby (11 Months)

February 17, 2015

Harrison, Here we are. The eleventh hour. Crunch time. The final countdown. Next month, you’ll still be my baby, but you’ll no longer be my_ baby_. (BIG) Sigh. You’ve had another whirlwind month, as you’re accustomed to by now. You’re growing by leaps and bounds and you’ve cruised right into 18-24 month clothing. Daddy and I can’t wait until you get officially weighed and measured next month. We’re anxious to see if you’ve grown as much as we think you have.

A Letter To My Baby (12 Months)

March 31, 2015

Hi bud! A quick note about why your 12-month letter is being published 2 weeks after you turned one… yes, it’s the tardiest I’ve been on one of these but here’s the thing - actually here are the few things that are contributing to the tardiness: you had four (!!!) birthday parties, you decided to stop sleeping through the night for quite a few days, we took over 2000 pictures in a little over a week and we visited with lots of family and friends so cut me a little slack, okay?

A Letter To My Baby (15 Months)

June 19, 2015

Dearest Harr Bear, It’s been three months since your last letter. Although the first twelve months went by at a(n) (unusually) reasonable pace for your old Mama, the last three months have not. It feels like you’re positively rocketing into toddler-dom but that’s okay. We’re having the time of our lives and soaking it all in. I can’t believe how you’ve changed. You took your first few steps back in early May but never got the hang of it because you (probably) figured that your fastest mode of travel was still on all fours.

A Letter To My Baby (18 Months)

September 28, 2015

Hi Harr Bear! If I had any problem calling you a “toddler” up until this point, I better get over it because we’re now closer to your second birthday than your first and that. is. crazy. You’re over 33” tall and 24 1/2 pounds. You’re a full-blown toddler for sure. You’ve moved very quickly from walking to full-on running, flashing your signature happy face all the while. You infuse a light into my life that I never knew existed, even when I thought I’d seen it at full capacity.

A Letter To My Baby (2 Months)

May 17, 2014

Hi Harrison Mark! It’s Mom again. I know it’s only been a few weeks since I wrote you your last letter, but you’re two months old today so I had to share some updates. Two months. Sheesh! I’ll write you monthly from here on out, since it’ll be a nice round number on which I can dish about all of your latest doings. Nice, round numbers make Type A-ish people like Mommy very happy.

A Letter To My Baby (3 Months)

June 17, 2014

Hi Harr Bear! It’s Mom again, and I’m back with another monthly check-in to keep track of all of your achievements this past month. Yes, I said achievements. What?! I’m a proud Momma, what can I say? Three months. Three months. Wow. Two things are certain: I have no idea where those three months went and you’re changing every day. Oh, and one more thing that’s certain. I love you more with each passing day.

A Letter To My Baby (4 Months)

July 17, 2014

Harrison boy! We’re more than halfway through July which means you, my love, are 4 months old. How can I possibly have a 4 month old? That can’t be right. You’re way past the point of being a newborn and although that saddens me a bit, I know the fun is just getting started. In the last month, we did so much. Nan and I took you on your very first road trip: we ventured to Cape Cod to visit your Great Nana.

A Letter To My Baby (5 Months)

August 18, 2014

HMT, Yesterday was the 17th, which means no matter how unbelievable, another month has passed. You’re officially a cereal-eating, toe-lint hoarding, 5-month old that doesn’t stop jumping, chewing, smiling and giggling. You’re our inquisitive, sometimes-silly, sometimes-serious boy and my, you’re growing quickly. Last month was a whirlwind of new faces. You met your Auntie Kimmy and Uncle Cory for the first time. You met Great Aunts, Great Uncles, and lots of cousins.

A Letter To My Baby (6 Months)

September 18, 2014

Harrison! My love! It’s Momma again, and you are officially a six-month old. Whether I like it or not. (I like it… and not, too.) This letter is a day behind because I’ve been trying to gather my thoughts and figure out exactly what I want to say to you on this pretty significant “milestone” birthday. That, and I take literally hundreds of pictures of you every month and it takes a while to sort through ‘em all.

A Letter To My Baby (7 Months)

October 22, 2014

Hello again my sweet, sweet boy. It’s Momma and I’m a bit late on your letter this month. Again. Forgive me. You turned seven months old on the seventeenth and we decided to take you all over creation in the days after, leaving Mommy zero computer time. It was all worth it, of course, but that’s why this is a little tardy. Instead of a letter in paragraph form, I decided to try a different layout this time.

A Letter To My Baby (8 Months)

November 18, 2014

My love, my sweet boy, my Harr Bear. Hi, and happy 8-month birthday! The past month has been craaaaazy. Crazy. You’ve been such a busy boy. Are you ready for a rundown? In the last month, you took your first trip to NYC, witnessed your first snow, had a few play dates, took a few hikes, had your first sleepover when Charlie came over, hit up the Long Island vineyards, had your first Halloween, popped your very first tooth, pulled yourself up for the very first time, contracted and kicked your first cold, and pulled yourself up on your knees a bunch.

A Letter To My Baby (9 Months)

December 23, 2014

Harrison Mark, Before I start in on your letter this month, I just want to thank you for kicking off month 9 with such a bang. Two nights in a row, you slept from 6:30pm to 7:00am. It. Was. Awesome. While it lasted… you’ve slept through the night quite a bit since then, but you now like to start your day at 5:00am. If you could move that back by even forty five minutes, Daddy and I will be positively _sprightly _upon greeting you.

A Letter To My Baby (Six Weeks)

April 29, 2014

Hi Harrison! You crossed the six week mark yesterday and Daddy and I can’t believe it! What did we do with our time before you came along? Our lives are now wrapped around your very existence and every need, and that’s okay with us. In my opinion, we’ve adjusted to the lack of sleep admirably. I’ve only had a few meltdowns and Daddy hasn’t had any! Of course, I blame it on the hormones.
