A Scattering And A Smattering

We’ve been busy little bees around here at School House Rehab. Well, I’ve been a busy bee. Matt doesn’t associate with the blog - until I threaten to use one of his power tools without him - then he’s all over it, naturally.

I have a scattering (it’s a real word) of projects all over the house and garage and garden, but nothing final to share with you. Instead, I’ll share a smattering (also a real word) of pictures showing what I’ve been up to lately. Maaaayyyybe, by the end of the month, it will serve as a big before and after. We’ll see.

I suppose we left off with my recap of the Run for the Families. The day after, on Palm Sunday, I hosted an early Easter dinner for 9 people. What was I thinking, really, knowing I’d be out all day Saturday for the run? It turned out pretty well, though. My mom kicked off the day right, by bringing these beauties, which are still going strong thanks to being cut and placed in a tall vase.

Spring Tulips

I made a ham, baked potatoes, and some veggies, and my mom and mom-in-law helped with some salad and quiche. Everything was delicious, if I do say so myself.

\(Early\) Easter Dinner

I spent the week leading up to Easter stalking my bulbs. After planting nearly 200 bulbs last fall, you better believe I’m going to stalk them. I don’t want my efforts going unrewarded. Plus, I’m a self-proclaimed “crazy plant lady.” It’s what CPLs do. I spotted my first crocus popping up and snapped a picture, which you may have seen if you follow me on Instagram. Go ahead and follow me. You can find me at “schoolhouserehab.”

First Crocus

The next day, I had a bunch more pop up. I thought I planted white and purple, but the purple guys are the only ones showing up so far. I was in a bulb-induced frenzy turned haze, so who really knows what I planted? We shall see.

On a further perimeter walk, I noticed my beloved magnolia shedding it’s outer shell, which means the beautiful pink color isn’t far behind.

Northern Magnolia

I used to have two magnolias, but I lost one in the Halloween Massacre of 2011. Update: She may rise again! There are small shoots and buds all over, stemming from the previously sorry-looking stump.

Here are some daffodil shoots that I thought were adorable. Look at the guy in the middle - pushing up out of the ground and holding up that little piece of mulch in victory. CPL, representing.

Daffodil Shoots

However, I grew tired of waiting for my first daffodil to bloom, so I grabbed a few from a big clump on the side of the house to bring some color indoors and prod them along. #gardeningimpatience

Easter weekend, my parents asked me & Matt to a couple of women’s college basketball games, featuring my alma mater, UConn! Go huskies! We were excited to go and see the regional final play out, and it proved amazing. Mostly because we won. Final Four, here we come!

I had a little time to tackle a few small projects around the house (to be revealed in a future post) including a couple of thrift shop finds. One project features these plates and candlesticks.

Thrift Shop Project

I started sanding this side table down after a DIY fail to fix it up and put in the guest room. Again, the full post still to come - this is just a scattering and a smattering, remember?

I’m also giving this $12 mirror some new life. It’s in the paint phase, as you can see…

Spray Paint a Mirror

I’ve been trying to get outdoors with Griff a lot lately, and enjoy any bit of warm sunshine I can get. This particular walk proved interesting when a ferocious Maltese sneaked up on me and made me shriek as if it were a bear. For real, that happened. A horror movie scream. Only me. Griff was determined to chase the little pup down. She ran right back up her driveway.

Mutt vs. Maltese

Griff and I ended up walking down to the lake, where we passed my favorite house in the neighborhood, only to realize it’s up for sale. Fate!

Not quite. I can’t quite afford the 7 acres, guest house, the bigger-than-my-house garden, or the bigger-than-my-house koi pond. Damn. I’ll keep dreaming and hope the new owners give the beautiful, antique home as much love as the current owners.

That’s pretty much it! I should have some new posts up this coming week with the finished and hung mirror, my little plate and candlestick project, and that side table. I’ll try to include some pretty flower pictures, too. Only because you’re asking, though.

Come on, there have to be some other CPLs out there.
