White Kitchen Trim and Chatterblocks

Do you remember when Matt and I ripped off the old, dinky kitchen trim and replaced it? You probably don’t, because it was in March. Then the whole having-a-baby thing happened and that poor trim sat untouched for too long.

New Kitchen Trim

A couple of months ago, I finally filled the nail holes with wood putty, sanded it down and slapped on a few coats of Behr’s Ultra Pure White. I may add one more coat but for now, it’s looking much better. I once mused about what to hang above the microwave but I’ve since made my decision. I was the lucky recipient of Chatterblocks for Christmas. Why yes, the under cabinet lighting was red much to Matt’s delight.

I saw the charming, made-in-USA, (go VT!) wooden letter blocks in a Camden, Maine shop window while vacationing this summer and fell in love. I mentally added them to my Christmas wish-list and my brother-in-law popped on them. We have a $50-ish gift guideline and at just under $54, these fit the bill. You can get them on Amazon here.

I’m obsessed with them. They’re perfect for the space and they allow me to be creative with whatever I feel like saying on a week-to-week basis. This week, it’s “Happy New Year!” Ignore the wrinkled dish towel…

I can’t wait until Harrison can read and I can send him not-so-subliminal messages. “Eat your veggies!” “Kiss your Mama!” Matt’s having fun with them too. He’s looking forward to having his friends visit and spelling out things like “Go Away,” You’re Not Welcome,” and “Get Out,” among other NSFW phrases. Oh, and you can see the new white trim in the picture above. A big improvement. The power of paint always shocks me, no matter how many transformations I tackle.

This post wasn’t sponsored by Chatterblocks. They have no idea who I am. I simply love them and wanted to share their awesomeness with you. They make cool gifts. Definitely one of my favorite home-related gifts this year. I used some of my Christmas cash to buy the add-on set, too. You know, so I can add in numbers and related pictures as needed.

Now, I’m off to play with my little one and his newest obsession: the cozy coupe!
